I know that there aren't many of us from Europe here, but I'm not sure how many people here watch soccer (or football in Europe). Might be a nice thread while we don't have much to talk about in the NBA. It's not as big as World Cup, but it's still nice competition with some of the best countries in the world...and this is a third day already.

I'm Portuguese so how is Portugal going.

They played two days ago, and it didn't go too well for them. Though, they did play against the Germany, and that is always tough match to play. In the end, Germany won 1:0.
Since Serbia decided to suck again, and they failed to qualify, I'm gonna watch Denmark and France the most, maybe Sweden as well. ![]() ![]() |

Portugal used to be a very good team, not sure how they are now. Holland were the Euro champions last time weren't they? Spain has a good chance if they're still in it.

Nope, Holland lost in the finals to Spain. Spain is holding both Euro and World titles at the moment. They played draw (1:1) with Italy in their first game.

And that finals Holland lost to Spain was in the World Cup. In Euro 2008 Spain won by beating Germany (1:0).

When was the last time a Euro team did that, winning both the Euro and World championships consecutively?

Hm, I'm not that big of a fan myself, so I'll try to dig it out. Probably it wasn't done in some time.

I've been watching a good amount of the eurocup thus far... most of the favorites tied their opening game. Gonna be interesting to see how Demark does in the group of death tomorrow after the upset.
And yes, rooting for spain! |
|
Yeah, I'm looking forward to watching Denmark again. They have a good team, and they play team soccer. And I like their defense, they have Kjaer and Agger at central backs. I think they can get into the second round if they continue to play disciplined game.

Portugal v Spain in a rematch of World Cup semis I think it was, in the Euro semis. Hopefully Portugal can get them this time.
Germany v Italy in the other semi and Germany has benver been Italy in a final as far as I've read. ![]() ![]() migya make the ring fall on ya |

Yeah, I'm gonna root for Portugal as well, in that first semi-finals match. Crackerz will curse us for that though, lol.
And it was a great match last night between England and Italy. Italians played pretty good, they had a lot of chances, but just couldn't score. And England played tough defense. It was a usual 0:0 draw, but it wasn't boring at all. In the end, Italy won on penalties...I would say that they completely deserved that win. ![]() ![]() |

Well Migya is portuguese, so it is understandable. you, guybrush, on the other hand....
I think spain will win the next match. They have been the second best team in the tourney (with POrtugal being third) and Germany being first, of course. As for the game yesterday, the better team won. Little interesting fact. The final four teams were either on group B or C (meaning group A, the joke of a group, and a mediocre group in D are all out). |

I'm just cheering for the underdog here...not my fault that your team won both World and Euro.
That Group A was the worst group in all of the sports and competitions that I have ever seen. Pathetic teams... ![]() ![]() |
